Cebora 130 Turbo, Problems

At 56 years I hope I am not to old to learn , my recently acquired used 130 is misbehaving, Wire feed is fine when trigger is pulled but does not keep feeding when it has created an arc, it burns back to the nozzle tip, the shroud also gets ( live ) and can arc if it touches the work, the wire is 0.8mm the nozzle is a 1.00mm. the gas is Machine Mart disposable CO2 with a almost instant supply when the trigger is squeezed, I have replaced the wire feed liner and the nozzle, I am trying to weld the bodywork on a 1979 MG Midget, finally the weather has abated, thanks to my ex employer for closing the branch I have the time, I have allready bought the steel and the parts, so please help with any advice you may be able to offer, as sadly I am now unemployed I cannot afford any speculative parts to try and solve the problem. I feel better allready, thanks Fred.

It sounds like either the wire feed is too slow, or something is causing the wire to slow down when you start welding. See if turning the wire speed up helps.

Is there spatter inside the shroud that could cause shorting against the tip? Otherwise probably a faulty shroud (shrouds should be instlated where they screw on).

There are tips on setting up wire feed tensions here: http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/wire-feed.htm - It's possible the wire is slipping on the feed rollers. Are they set to the same diameter as the wire?

If your shroud is live it may be that it is full of spatter that is creating an electrical path between the contact tip and the inside of the shroud, pull it of and give it a clean, is this a new machine or used, If its used it may benefit from a new liner and / or torch, this will most probably sort out your wire feed problems.
Edit: sorry just re-read your post see you have already changed the liner.

Thanks for the advice about the spatter in the shroud. That seems to have done the job, but unfortunately the poor feed persists, with the speed turned up fully the wire arc's and the feed immediately stops, if the torch is moved whilst the trigger is continued to be activated, the wire shoots out at a pace. I have noticed that the torch is supposed to have a springs part in the final portion of the tube behind the nozzle, does anyone know for sure?. Also does the nozzle protrude from the shroud or is it shy of the edge. your input is as usual appreciated. Fred.

it sounds as if you have a tension issue at the wire feed roller, check that you are using the correct groove in the roller, and that the roller is clean, adjust the tension so that you can just stop the wire from feeding by squeezing the wire with your fingers as it exits the contact tip, make sure the reel is free to turn, try to keep the welding lead straight, the contact tip should be at least level or inside the shroud.
Some of these small torches do have a swan neck liner directly behind the contact tip, youll need to dismantle the torch to fit it.

Fred, when you changed the liner did you also fit a new spring liner in the swan-neck? Those cebora's do have them fitted and they get clogged up too.
Also, is the wire new or is it old rusty stuff that came with the welder? Any rust, even a light surface coating, can cause feed problems. It could also be a badly wound reel, I've had one in the past.

power output from 130

Hello everyone, hope to get some help identifiying whats wrong with my snap on 130 mig welder.
It seems that regardless of the power setting selected not enough power is getting transfered to the workpiece and the weld is just little beads that are not effectively penetrated onto the job.
I am using 0.8 mm wire
Gas is C02
when switching between the power settings you can hear it change tone and the unit works on all of the four various settings but resists putting out any real power.God bless e bay .Please can anyone assist in solving this problem

Could be a couple of things. Easy one would be a really bad electrical connection in the torch or earth lead. Try laying a bead for about 30 seconds then unplug from the mains, and feel around for anything that's hot.

Also possible the rectifier has failed. They have diodes that convert AC to DC, and if one diode has failed you'll have half the DC current.
