cebora 1350 tig inverter wont work?

i bought the tig from ebay second hand it has worked fine uptill yesterday when half way through welding stainless exhaust i arced up and heard a pop from inside the machine now it wont arc all the lights r on and overheat one goes out like its suposed to but still no arc any idears or any repair guys in and around the midlands would be helpfull thanks

p.s i have taken outer cover off but nothing black or look broken

im not sure as im in the same boat but i think there maybe a fuse with the transformers but not sure yet. im stripping mine out later and checking all componants again as im not keen on testing transformers lol

Two possibles, one easy the other expensive. Please make sure machine has been turned off for 20 minutes or so before playing - inverters bite!

Easy one - On the component side of the pcb, find the large dark copper coloured coil (you'll know it when you see it). Turn over the pcb and check the soldered joints for this. A common problem is these joints breaking up where they join the tracks. Not always very obvious, so check with a magnifying glass. Fix by cleaning up track, then use 200W soldering iron to flow new solder.

Expensive problem is failed IGBT (large transistor things on ally heatsinks). These go *BANG* when they fail and usually split their plastic cases, so you might see the failed one(s). Only real option is to replace PCB complete, which is expensive. Replacing IGBT's is specialist work and most times more components fail anyway, so it just keeps costing more and more.
