hi im new to mig welding i have a cebora 180 autostar im just wondering if they is a chart telling you what setting to have it on for the thickness/type of metal wanting to weld or is it just practice till its right i know low setting for thin and hight for thick

Hi. I have the same machine and have never seen a recommended settings chart for it. I used the welding calculator chart to start with, but it's basically trial and error.
We are welding (old) car body metal, about 0.8mm thick. I think we started at lowest setting on power, then middle setting on wire speed - then ran a few lines on scrap metal of the same thickness until we got a decent weld. You probably wouldn't want anything above the lowest power for thin car body work; just fine tune the wire speed until you are happy.
It is handy to have a note book to note the settings. We use a gas flow of about 10l a minute.
Our biggest problem is that you can get great welds on your practise runs, but when you start on the car you blow through so easily. I think this is an issue of old metal, awkward angles, poor viewing position etc. Very frustrating though.
Let us know which settings you have found the best. Ceboras are great machines, just require a fair bit of practise to get good results, like all welders.
