cebora 2500,any one know about these migs

hi does anyone know anything about this mig welder,,such as the minimum weld amps and weather it has a jumper in it,to enable voltage switch from 3phase to other voltages,,in fact any info at all,,i think it is called a jaguar 2500, but have been told its by cebora,,,what are they like,,cheers ,
also are there any pit falls with it
and if any one knows how much it weighs,and its dimensions,for geting it courrierd,,any one know of a cheap one to collect and deliver this size welder,,,

I've got a feeling those welders are 3 phase only but I could be wrong.
Where have you seen it for sale?

No idea, it's from an auction site.
I've not seen any info on here to suggest that those machines are multi-voltage but you never know, you might be in luck.
Good price too.

Jaguar 2500 was made by Cebora and was a really nice welding machine. Would take a standard mig torch and could accept a spool-on-gun that could be set up for ally welding. Interesting that both guns could be left plugged in and a switch on the front swapped between the guns.
Sadly, 3 phase only for this machine. There was a Jaguar 2000 (200A Max) that ran from 240V only. Output of 2500 is 20 to 250Amps. Weight 65Kg and dimensions 405 X 920 X 790 (mms). A really nice weld from either set and great for cars if a bit OTT on size.

wow,,just the info i was after,,,,are you shure theres not a jumper inside ?,,only a mate has welder 300 amps no info or make on it any where,,looks like a respray job,,but it has a plate on that says 3ph 415v,,no other voltages mentioned on it ? but has a block inside that have had wires swapped or something that look new,,and the welder is running on 240 v

Certain that there are no jumpers. Cebora were not well known for providing multi-voltage machines. Generally, it's the older style welders that had to cope with (old) European and USA 110V supplies, as well as UK 240V. So these often had useful jumper settings. Nowadays there are machines that run on all sorts of voltages (GYS & Miller do automatic multi-voltage sets) and manufacturers don't want the extra expense of fitting a jumper panel and extra wiring/windings that may not be needed at all.
Jaguar 2500 has 3 separate windings on the main transformer that must be powered from a phase each, so it's 3 phases or nothing I'm afraid.

Not really. On a 3 phase machine, each transformer winding receives its supply voltage 120 degrees out of phase from the others, the resulting low voltage outputs are then combined in the rectifier to produce a smooth DC welding output. Even if you could synthesize this action at 240V, your supply current requirement would double. Imagine you have a 3 cylinder car engine - each cylinder fires at a set interval, about 120 degrees apart. If you put in a new crankshaft that allowed every cylinder to fire at the same time, the stress would be enormous. This is the simplest analogy I can think of.
Most 3 phase machines with different supply tappings were still designed to run from 3 phases but at lower voltages. A few machines (the old max-arc Mig 200 springs to mind) were designed to run from 415V 2 phase and had tappings that effectively altered the length of the transformer windings so they worked equally well on 240V single phase.
It's a waste of time even contemplating running this machine from 240V. Get a single phase machine or find a phase converter that'll give you 3 phases from 240V. Google would help here.

...and to save you asking loads of questions about that too, the single phase to 3 ph converters you see on Ebay for next-to-nothing are for running machines with motors, they won't work on resistive loads like welders.
To run a 3ph welder you'd need a great big rotary or digital one which will cost you maybe up to 5 times what the welder will cost so as Dave says, look for a single phase machine.
