cebora bravo sounds

i used my new cebora bravo 155 for the first time yesterday. when i weld i hear two different mechanical grinding rolling sounds coming from the welder. i believe its coming from the wire feed device.

when i first switched on the welder and used it 5 minutes eairlier there was no noise. but when i went up to the hightr amps settings with increasing the wire feed speed this sound came in.

im guessing this should be normal sounds since the machine is brand new.

can anyboby tell me if these sounds are normal

...it's not just the reel of wire rocking on the spindle is it Omkar? Have you tried running wire out of the machine while not welding to investigate where the noise it coming from (but be careful that the end of the wire does not find its way onto the earth return while you are doing this). Have you tried unloading the wire (be careful not to let the wire spring of the reel) from the wirefeed and running the wirefeed motor at full speed? Graham.

Have you got the tension between the idler and feed rollers too tight? It should be set so that the wire skids if you obstruct the nozzle to stall the wire.

It could be transformer growling, higher speed = higher current.

trouble shooting

when i heard the noises i opened the cabinet and put my ear next to the feeder and pressed the trigger ( at the tensioner is where the first noise comes from). the noise comes from inside the machine/ behind the tensioner. i have the tensioner set on the minimum ( the tensioner screw is only bearly threaded in its holder. if i up the tension the noise decreases a little but is still there. its a kinda pulsing mechanical grinding, not a constant grinding sound. also i should say that for this minimum tension the wire slips at higher speeds and is fed in a pulsing manner while welding ( not constant feed)

the second noise comes from behind the wire reel( inside the machine). the wire reel is also bearly threaded in so there is the bare minimum tension against the reel. i did not try taking the wheel off or adding more tension to the reel yet.

im inclined to believe that the noise at the tensioner is a result of a lack of tension on the tensioner. so that as the wire unwinds from one side of the wheel to another its alignment with the wire feeder mechanism changes and causes different levels of resistance to being fed. this different levels of resistence means the tensioner grips most when the wire is completly aligned and slips when the wire is to the far side of the spooll. so probably the tensioner is saying "heave!!! ho!! heave!! ho!!"

the other sound i need to trouble shoot by tensioning the wire reel more or taking it off like you suggested.

if this is so then probably i can try uping the tension in increments until i get a staedy sound. but what worrys me the most about the sounds is that they are eaisly two times louder than the fan of the machine itself. so i dont know is THAT is normal.

as fro transformer growling. i dont know how it should sound on a mig welder. especially on a cebora so i cant say if its that.

im thinking i should just contact the guys who sold it to me and have someone come check it out. ïve only had it for two days.

I think we're talking at cross purposes.

When I said reduce the tension I meant the tension on the idler roller where it presses on the feed roller, not the spool tension.
