Cebora Pocket Turbo 130 - Beginner...

Hi guys. New to the forum. Been searching and very helpful! I have just bought a pocket turbo 130. The gas tube on the back of the welder is a clear thin tube. Does any one know what I need to attach change / connect to use the big gas bottles?

I have yet to get gas. I am reading mixed reviews weather to go with Argon / Co2 mix or just Co2. I understand the mix will allow to “spray weld” but I’m unsure if this welder is capable for this. (A bit advance for me any way).

I have done a few minor welds before but this is my first own welder.

Any help / advice regarding welder / welder settings / gas is much appreciated. Many thanks.

I got one of them, paid £10 for it about 35 years ago, i used some rubber hose to up the size of the gas pipe till it fitted the reg.
i just use pub gas, bit spitty but does the job.
also, i replaced the earth lead from the rectifier with something a bit bigger and put a dinze socket on so i can use my big earth lead from my arc welder, made a lot of difference.

the mixed gas is what most use for welding as gives the best weld

co2 is what someof us use if on a budget is works and gives a fair weld pub bottles around £15 to 20

this is what you are looking at ish this i belive for co2 there are people on here that will help and confirm better than me but gives you an idea

if you going for mixed gases you will need a differant one as the attactment is differant to the gas bottle

as said above wait untill some one confirms what you need

if doing car welding mixed gas is best if playing with welding fixing stools building a bench co2 is fine

No danger of spray transfer, this only occurs at high current settings, typically over 250 amps.

It would originally have had something like this to fit disposable cylinders, like this...

Once you've decided you like welding moving to a big cylinder will make life much cheaper, as disposable cylinders only last for perhaps 10 minutes welding. Machinemart sell everything for that, as does the forum sponsor Weldequip, other vendors are available.

Hi owned the very same welder from new, had it for over 20 years. It’s proved reliable but I think it’s weak link is the wire drive mechanism. It’s already been noted on other threads spares are getting hard to find, except perhaps those around the gun itself. I too use CO2, which gives a decent but splattery finish, albeit at a reasonable price.
Having had as described elsewhere “clapper arm” pivot break off the back plate I applied a cheap & simple mod to my drive mechanism to give the pivot extra support. But don’t forget to ensure the wire feed tube & guide spring at the gun end are kept clean.
As mentioned above the gas feed slips inside the 1/4” hose from the regulator & a hose clamp ensures a gas tight fit.

I too have one of these and I also converted mine to a euro torch and big gas bottle, Mainly use mine for doing car body work repairs, Although I am thinking its time I upped my game and bought something a bit more industrial.
My machine has never let me down.

The other weak point is the trigger contacts in the torch. The contacts are small hard bit like the ones on points in the olden days, if you do a lot of stop start welding they get a bit burnt and high resistance causing erratic starting. Dismantleband polish with some emery paper.

Hi just dug out my snap on version of this plant, the wire roll was a bit dirty so I was pulling it through the gun and a shaped curtain wire looking coil came out from the gun with the wire. I took the gun apart and refitted it but now I don't get any earth spark contact. Is this linked as to why? TIA
