Hi all,
I just bought a Cebora clone BOC Migmaster 130 off eBay which was advertised as spares or repairs; the usual clapper arm breakage was cited as the culprit but no mention of any other problems.
Fair enough, the clapper arm was broken and was replaced the day after I collected the set; I was also given a new plastic wire liner by a friend which should have sorted out the wire feed side of things.
However, the wire feed seemed very erratic when I fed a new reel of 0.8 through it, so I started looking at the motor/gearbox assembly. I had, of course, removed this while changing the clapper arm assembly, but hadn't thought to examine its innards. I now find that the wire feed output shaft was tight in the needle roller bearings and this has partially stripped the intermediate pinion in the gearbox - the pinion on the motor is brass/bronze and is in perfect condition, as is the plastic output pinion. The bearing may have been tight due to the machine standing for a while but I lubricated it with lithium grease and it's fine now.
Now, I didn't pay a lot for the welder (£60-odd) and the clapper arm assembly cost £28 so I thought I'd got a decent welder for £90 or so. I now discover that I have to buy a complete motor/gearbox assembly for £60 or so to get one plastic pinion and the welder's starting to look expensive . . .
So I was wondering if there are any other squirrels like myself out there who have a shed full of stuff that will 'come in useful some day.' I've got 3 sheds and a greenhouse full of stuff like that, and none of the things that they used to fit . . . Maybe someone has changed a motor at some stage and kept the gearbox in case it comes in useful some day?
I would, of course, be very willing to reward such a person with coin of the realm for their assistance.
Alternatively, is there a secret source of gears, known only to those who know the secret handshake of this forum? ()
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
