Cebora Special Tig Uno torch and earth clamp

Hi,

I’ve been Tig welding for a few years now, but only with a crappy no-name Chinese DC inverter welder on some (extremely) thin steel. As I’ve got a project in mind that would probably require AC welds for ali, I’m currently looking at getting something slightly bigger, better and more powerful. A mate of mine is selling his late father’s old Cebora “Special Tig Uno” which is AC/DC. The only problem is, that it doesn’t have the torch or ground clamp. I’ve already looked at it, and it seems to power on and such, but I’d like to test it before I give him my hard earned (even if we did go to school together!)

I’ve been looking for a torch and clamp for it on the internet, but going only off pictures is not very helpful as I can’t work out if they’ll actually fit (do ac machines have different sized connections/wires because of their dual function?)

I was wondering if anyone indeed owns one of these machines, or knows of where I might get a Tig torch and clamp that would fit as obviously I don’t want to buy blind and end up having to return them!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Ted,

My first TIG was that exact one. It's a solid (and very heavy) tranformer based machine with HF start, and it will run on 415 or 240v. The downsides are that it has a finnicky HF system that requires setting the gap on the HF points very carefully, it has no frequency control so it give a 50hz arc with no balance, and if you run it on 240v it puts out half the power on the scale, so about 100A.

I know he's your mate but I wouldn't give £100 for that unit without the torch and earth. I don't know that I'd give much more even with them.

Glad to hear you’ve used the machine before, as I was a little worried that no one on here would even know this machine existed given its age.

Are you able to recommend a different machine I might be able to pick up for sub 250 quid that’s ac/dc instead?

For that money you're going to have to get lucky or take a big chance on something older.

Get your post count up past 10 I thinknot is then you'll be able to post a wanted ad on here, or put a wanted ad on the homeworkshop site.
