Cebora Stag 186 Specs

Hi Guys,

Hoping to get a Stag 186 from a member here pending confirmation of minimum amps but interested in its other features, very little information on these available.

What is the difference between the 186 and the 196 apart from the maximum amps?

What are the other controls on the front? I'm new to welding, so one will be voltage, another for wire speed, the symbol on another suggests spot weld timer? What is the other one?

Also do these machines automatically adjust wire speed to voltage? That would be great.

Spot and stitch timers would be the other two. Can't help you with the specs but the data plate will tell you that so ask the seller to posts a better photo of it and we should be able to advise.
Not sure about the auto-adjusting wire speed either.

Ah, stitch timer, that could be handy too!

He is sending me a better picture of the specs when he gets a chance, I should be able to decipher the minimum amps from that, ill post it up if not.

The auto adjusting wire speed would be nice but not essential. Fingers crossed somebody knows!

Looks like the minimum amps is 28.
What sort of stuff do you plan on using it for?
The duty cycle at it's higher settings is very poor so it's ideal for bodywork and stuff up to about 3mm but not much good for welding on high power settings unless you're a chain tea drinker.

don't worry about the lowest ampage it can go down to, you can use the spot timer as a pulse. works a treat

I'm buying a welder for car bodywork initially, That's why I was after low amps, hard within budget.

Would someone mind explaining the maximum amps to me? It says max of 185A but in the other box it says 120A, is 120A the max amps at 20v (power setting 7?) but rises when wire speed is turned up, so 185A would be max power + max wire speed or have I got it all wrong?

The plate does state that the max amps is 185, and I think we have to believe that. That would be at about 26V. The "other box" on the data plate is there to show the duty cycle for various current ratings from 55 to 120 Amps. At the maximum 185 Amps, there is no value shown for duty cycle, so that must be less than 20%.
The maximum primary current draw of 20A would give 4,800 Watts at 240V AC, and, ignoring losses, that would provide 185 Amps in the secondary at 26V DC.
As for auto adjusting wire speed with power settings: I've used that system on a Migatronic at college, and found it very frustrating. Having full manual control of wire speed is my preference.

Oh I see, so the "Other box" was more like a heading for the duty cycles, it must be very low at 185A, not that I would need that.

Why does it state 185A max then? that's quite misleading & confusing I would have thought? 120A is quite a bit lower than what I would like and I've just told Mark I would take it.

The stag 196 is 195A so if what you say is correct then their naming makes no sense at all!

Hi I'm new to this forum I was just wondering if this welder (cebora stag 186) can be run off of a generator as the only garage I have is a council lock up with no power and I'm looking to make a set of gates or two I've been informed that apparently some welder's aren't compatible with a generator as it frys the internals of the machine any information on whether it can or can't be done or what output it would have to be to do so would be helpful and much appreciated Thanks in advance.

You can run a transformer MIG like this from a generator but you'll probably need a minimum of 5Kva output power, especially if you plan on using the machine for heavy welds. The machines you do not want to use from a generator, are the inverter types. My experience of these is that they load the generator when the arc is struck, the generator compensates and all is well. Then, you break the arc and the generator is suddenly released from the load and speeds up dramatically, providing more than the voltage required for normal operation. This sudden increase in voltage is what normally fries the electronics.

Using a good quality, well maintained generator of better than adequate capacity for the machine you are using, is always a good thing.
