cebora wire feed upgrade

I have a Cebora panther 200amp 240v that I use on 1.6-3mm tube and sheet but I'd like to upgrade the wire feed. Whats involved with swaping what I presume is a 2 pole motor for a smoother running 4 pole or does it need 3 phase to run it, in which should I just buy a 3 phase mig?

2 pole and 4 pole motors are usually AC motors which require a capacitor start run and are not ideal for on=off applications such as wire feeding.
I also think you'll find that most feed motors are DC motors with brushes, driven by variable voltage from the control board.
The Cebora units are usually pretty robust but I have had probelms with the control board on my Panther, a blown resistor giving excessively fast speeds.

Tachnical Arc advertise a wire feed motor on Ebay which should be quite heavy duty, not sure you'd get it in the Panther case though as it's quite compact compared with say a Portamig, MTA or Oxford.

You sure it's not the torch liner causing wire feed problems. I recently replaced mine with a new one form Steve at Weldequip, contact details at top of page. Panther liners are the same as Autostar I think.

I've got a 5mtr mb25 on my machine and the liner is blown out every two weeks and replaced every 2-3 months due to the lead being snaked around the job alot. I wounder if the feed motor is past it's best as it's 9yrs old or maybe it's just asking too much from the motor and rollers? I just thought if it's time to replace the motor then I may as well upgrade at the same time. Could this be the excuse I need to treat myself to a 3 phase machine with more nobs and buttons to play with?

Too long for pushing smaller diameter wires, try a 3 metre MB15 (which that machine will have had as standard) before going to the trouble & expense of replacing the wire feed assembly
