Cellulose?

Been seeing you guys talk about cellulose paints. Not a term used on this side of the pond.

Do you mean latex?

You'll possibly know cellulose paint as nitrocellulose, its what the US car makers were using in the 1920's. Though I'm not 100% sure, I dont think that its been used in the US for the last 50 years or so...

Ok, did some searches. Seems only used here to restore old guitars

Know very little about types. Just went to my supplier and asked what was easy to use and worked with a cheap gun I think the base was an Acrylic lacquer and clear was a paint/activator.

Went on nice. My gun did not atomize real well. Saw a finish like 800-grit sandpaper. Figured I needed to buff out, but 2 minutes later was smooth as glass when it flashed over

Where we used cellulose in UK you would use acrylic lacquer in USA however now that VOC paints are supposedly banned here we seem to be able to get acrylic in out spray cans when I think it would have been cellulose years ago.

I use a lot of Metalflake Corp acrylic lacquer which I love but the UK supplier no longer sells the Metalflake brand (acrylic?) thinners and I have lots of the paint to use up. Anyone know if cellulose thinners can be used in acrylic lacquer?

Praps Metalflake UK could advise but I use 2k thinners with 1k paints, less fierce than celly thinners.

best bet is mix some up and spray over a few pieces of scrap metal if it doesnt react on what u spray over it will be fine i use celle to thin hamerite paint and have sprayed over standard household gloss paint it softens it and takes a day to fully dry but works

just visit the a paint suppliers and ask for a thinner for acrylic paint
