Theres quite bit to it!, when people ask what you do for a job and you mention welding, they look at you as if you didn't do very well at school. but to be properly trained as a welder fabricator or sheet metal worker can take 5 years or more, and theres always something new to learn.
Very true mate, it was only when I left (got kicked out of) home and had to do things for myself I got interested in the likes of DIY/cooking/gardening etc.
Bought a lathe as I had an idea of producing a new type of metal filter for pipes (the smoking kind), never got anywhere but got me interested in 'metalwork'
My wife just doesn't understand when I try to enlighten her on the effects of the percentage of carbon in steel etc, strange girl
It's very true that the more you know the more you realise you don't know!
