How long do they last for sandblasting?

Was pondering to buy some off ebay and turn a brass shroud on the lathe so that the ceramic nozzles fit inside the shroud and screw onto an adaption on the gun.

dont waste your time and money . just buy a carbide jet and hold it in with a jubily clip

Ok,now then what about the diameter? 3mm or 3.5mm for aluminium which should be low pressure I think?

it depends on the size of your comp i think they do a 2.5mm and a 3mm for a pressurised pot 90 psi depends on if your comp can hold the pressure

I use the 2.5mm (now worn out to 3mm) for ally, pressure doesn't need to be particularly low, but I use very fine (ie re-used may times!) glass grit.

When doing ally be careful not to keep the jet in one place though, as you could gouge the metal, especially the case on modern alloy wheels where the paint may be tougher than the ally.

You got that right,I can't shift the paint off the casing I tried Nitromors,burning it off with the propane gas torch,although I didn't apply much heat as didn't want to warp the casing.

Hence me now having to use the sandblasting way.

I'll opt for the 2.5mm then.

You might find blasting won't shift it either. Nitromors is pretty tame these days, have a look here

Cheers,didn't know Nitromors dropped the important chemical in their paint stripper.

I'll dump this small tin then and go out and get some other brand,one I know a local DIY still stocks and is just as good as the original Nitromors....Called Pob Homecare Paint stripper,white tin red label.

this is good enough to strip the paint off old alloy wheels

If you use liquid methylene chloride you'll need to make a dipping bath and cover it with water as it evaporates very quickly.
