cfm usage

I've got this compressor http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/p.../path/diy-semi-professional-air-compressors-2 which I thought would cope well with air tools, but after about 30 seconds the tools start running slow as the comp cant keep up with them and have to stop until it can catch up but all of my tools are well under the 9 cfm of the comp.
DA-Air consumption 6.0 cfm
Die Grinder-Air consumption 4.0 cfm
Angle Grinder-Air consumption 4.0 cfm
Air Drill-Air consumption 6.0 cfm

Any ideas please

The quoted cfm of the compressor is its displacement ie the volume swept by the pistons, the cfm for the tools is at their operating pressure, about 90 psi.

Because the air is compressed you get less than the displaced volume at the tool.

I've got an old v twin compressor with a large receiver. sould be fine for tools, but it still will run out of puff then using die-gringer for a long period of time

TBH i think that its just a bit worn out, still its on semi-permanent loan from my brother. Will get a shiny new one when i Win the lotto

Not for continuous use, it's just too small. That sort of machine is just for intermittent use.
However, as they say it's suitable for running air tools you would be entitled to a refund.
You need at least a 3 HP, belt drive, twin cylinder machine for continuous use.

Problem is it was a flebay buy a guy started a small business but it didn't take off so he was selling the ones he had, It didn't even look like it had been switched on, so no refund but I did check that it would run them going by all the sites I looked at even Clarke's own site said it was OK for tools & I did try and get as low cfm tools as I could just to be on the safe side

You have the same size compressor as me, i just have to let the compressor catch up, which is fine in my home garage but not for any sort of business use

Probably puts about 6.5cfm FAD, something like that. That MM one's a load of money for what it is ... Cheaper air tools can be pretty optimistic about their reqs. e.g. my die grinder claims 4cfm, a joke, it'd barely turn over with that. Would've thought a DA would want more than 6cfm, my one does.

Praps doubling up could be an option? The Aldi comps are cheap when they come up. Got one for an airfed mask, cost about £80 for 2.5hp. Small tank though. There's posts on here about linking comps up.
