Chain Girl

Inspired by the popularity of my Chain Male sculpture, Stuvy thanks for the name I decided to have a go at making a female version.

Coming along well.
She was sold about an hour after I put her hubby on my website.
Looks like I need to make another.
Problem is models, mannequins are ok but I see some great ones walking about the streets, I have tried but they make such a fuss when I start on the welding.
I will have to think about to get them to sit still and not make such a fuss.
In the meantime here is Chain Girl on the slipway as it were.

Nice work. there is a guy in the states who makes (among other things) figurative sculptures from round discs (slugs) and gets nice effects with variations of size of discs. http://www.sfitzgeraldfineart.com

have a think about making her wall mountable as in half arms and stop her just under arm pit to waist then you can sell them as wall mounts that are almost flush to the wall but curvy for the boobs < that will be edited by a mod

The plan for hanging her* is to have a pair of small hooks on the wall so she can be taken off easily, people seem to like to handle sculptures, using hooks makes this an easy process. I did consider making a coathanger and recreating the cover of The Female Eunuch; the 70's feminist tract by Germain Greer.
I have my eye on a much more pneumatic model on Fleabay.
Then again I see some great ones about the town. Maybe catching my own would be more fun.

I have used slugs in small quantities, getting them in bulk is complicated but I have my feelers out. Currently converted to using rings, this is probably a phase I am going through. Making them in bulk is a great workout for the upper body and arms. Having a selection of sizes improves the result. New adjustable ring maker works a treat, five sizes available down to 25mm ID in 8mm.

Looks awesome!! I like the way you've used the different size rings to enhance the movement in the body, this is a great idea, I hope someone in the right area of expertise sees it. Like you say, getting to close to that world can be tricky. There's a woman around these parts that makes crazy beds for raunchy parties but she's an artist too so might like the idea for herself.

I need spare time to work on something new, you inspire me!!

Got her polished up today, she looks lovely.

I was lucky, the sun popped out for about 30 seconds.
Different sized rings also makes it a lot easier to deal with curves.

that picture of it all polished up makes it look really impressive! out of curiousity how did you polish it all?? must of taken ages!

Not too long, just horrible.
Did the outside with a wirebrush on a bench grinder. Do the whole thing one way up. Then do it again the other way up.
Then do the inside the same, both ways up. Then a cup brush on an angle grinder over the bits you cant get to.
Then a hand held wire brush for the bits that got missed.
Worth the effort though.
So often I hear 'It must be wonderful being an artist'.
It is, but sometimes it can be hideous.
BUT, no staff meetings etc etc etc etc.
The hideousity* makes up for itself.
Crank the music up loud enough and it ceases to matter.

I hate to say it Chunko but I reckon there's a market for yer Chain Chick in shopfitting. I'll bet there's a few boutiques around who'd like to hang clothes on chain-ring mannequins.

how about doing the rear half aswell and like drains says it may be of interest to the shopfitting crowd
