I need a new chain for my electric makita chain saw.

what is the difference between a Half Chisel Chain and a semi chisel chain?

I use it mainly for cutting logs to size for the stove so what would be best?

Not alot apart from the price, yes there will be some differences in tooth design but if your not in wood production for a living, why worry about a slightly slower cut time...

I presume one will be a pro chain and one will be a homeowner style chain and probably more H&S friendly less chance of kickback.

Half chisel and semi chisel are the same, not sure why they have those two listed.

The two main types of saw chain in that respect are semi chisel and full chisel. This refers to the cutter tooth's profile, a semi chisel has a rounded corner while a full chisel has a square corner:

Full chisel cuts faster, but as the leading edge of the corner is where the cut initially takes place a full chisel can dull faster (small surface area), and is more prone to quick dulling in dirty wood. Semi chisel is much more forgiving, and "generally" a better option, especially for home use.

Check the bar on your saw, that one is .043 gauge, the ones you linked earlier were .050 gauge.
