A friend of mine had a TVR and it was as bad as the example shown.

I scrapped a Landrover that had a big ball of MIG wire inside the chassis - the guy must have been sat there for several minutes wondering where all the wire was going.

That may have passed the MOT a few years ago, but these days the tester has to see a full seam weld on patches/repair sections.
I have a motor home based on a light truck chassis with similar welding to the inner sills which all need replacing for the same reason.

Looks like all it needs is a bit of silicone and some more grey paint.

That's why they replace human welders with robots, they don't have Friday afternoons or Monday mornings

Many thanks for the comments - A mate is producing exact replica C-Type Jaguar chassis. He's been obsessing over how to achieve welds to the standard of the original. The image is one I took for him of a genuine chassis from a car that's probably worth millions. It appears the bar is very low or maybe an indication of how the standard of welding has moved on over fifty years! He's rapidly had a re-think. The chassis is 4130 tube - if you're in the Southampton area and are good with Tig there may be some work in the future - it's a slow, ongoing project!

OK, I'd want much better quality than that.
But I'll be the first to point out that it's lasted this long and is probably adequate for the job even if it could be far better.

Possibly, being a race car the welding is a Mig repair due to damage.
