Cheap blast pot problems

Hi Guys,

I just bought one of these cheap 10 gallon blast pots off ebay. After reading round exhaustively I still had no idea the real results to expect but needed a blaster so took the plunge...

So I bought some 'medium grit' glass medium. Loaded it up connected to my huge workshop compressor which must be in the order of 30CFM and got huge tank (270L odd) and double motors.

So with the glass the valve on the nozzle blasted through in no time. Like second use. Fitted a new better quality one and has done the same, also blasted the valve on the 'medium feed'. I switched to a finer grit second time round.

It seems to clog constantly too. Especially with the glass.

So what the hell am I doing wrong. Can anyone offer a step by step walk through to actually using this beast? It's really ******* me off.

oh and I fitted the largest nozzle size.

theres a host of problems can occur one is bin the blast nozzle and buy a 3mm carbide jet from ace engineering there about 18 quid /cut the old one off and fit new one and use a jubily clip to hold it in the end of pipe . buy some superfine expendable abrasive and give that ago. dont over regulate the flow of grit through valve or it will clog up open valve slowly . u want a lot more air through it than grit 20 percent grit 80 percent air . thats a start

It does seem to clog at the medium feed valve rather than the nozzle.

Ditch the valve at the nozzle and fit a tungsten nozzle straight into the end of the hose, fix it with a jubilee clip.

The bottom grit valve should last a fair time, make sure the bypass valve (from the top of the pot to the mixer) is fully open and adjust the bottom valve until you just can't see the media stream.

Don't use too much pressure, about 80-90 psi is a good starting point.

I've used a range of glass grit sizes with mine without too many problems.

If you want a perfect blast pot then you'll have to fork out about a grand!

after u cut the old nozzle off open and shut pot off by using the ball valve on the airline feed to pot
