Did you? And if so, where's the write-up? Judging by the 'tang' bolted on in the first pic, it looks like it's been used for holding stuff being welded, among other things.

I've got the thing home... It's a bit scruffy...

And I've started with the paint removal, using a needle scaler on this bit:

Progress on this will likely be slow as I have other ongoing projects which take priority but I'll update this thread as I go. I'm probably wasting my time but it might be OK as a welding bench vise. It cost me nothing so far so I can't really complain.

I wouldn't spend too much time on it. That sort of vice can break if you just look too hard.

I mean, look at the nut retaining fixture.

Start small and enjoy. the fun is the learning the way to do something.
Plus finding out what's local to you, to allow you to complete the job.

It took me far longer than it should have to work out it said 100mm....

Looks pretty damned good to me. There's plenty of room under there, might be worth reinforcing it with some side pieces. After all, it managed to break when it was one solid piece of cast iron.
