Not the handheld ones, but the bigger board type work very well, although they require a very strong power supply. For heavy use like melting, the coils need watercooling, but for heating boits that is unnessasary.

I would say 21v and 20a is a minimum for this kind of thing, too low and it stops resonating and lets the smoke out. For short runs it will be ok from a power tool battery if you monitor the battery voltage.
My power supply for it is 48v at 52A or something silly, about 3kW.
We have one, forget which brand but it's well known, Sealey maybe. Was about £300 a few years ago. Haven't used it a great deal but it has removed several nuts and bolts that I think would otherwise have had to be drilled out.
