Hi all,
I’m going to start this off with a disclaimer: I only plan to use this welder a few times, so I really don’t want to spend more than £400 at an absolute maximum. I understand for the budget, I won’t get welds that are the same quality as from something like a Miller or Lincoln Electric welder, but then again, I’m no professional and only need it for a few odd jobs before it sits on the shelf for who knows how long.
That being said, I’m looking for an Arc/TIG welder for two projects I’m doing. I’m looking for an AC/DC welder so I can do a mix of steel and aluminium of varying thicknesses (such that ARC/TIG are the only methods that make sense).
I’ve had a look on the internet and in local welding supply shops and naturally, such welders are rather expensive. As mentioned earlier, my budget is £400 as an absolute maximum.
In that budget I’ve discovered two welders that fit my criteria: Röhr WSME-200 and the Dirty Pro Tools WSME-220. Both welders look fairly similar (I’m guessing they’re made in the same factory but I could be wrong), but there are some differences in appearance in amperage range (the difference doesn’t make much of a difference at the thicknesses I’m welding at). The reviews I’ve read on Amazon/eBay for them seem quite positive, but I’m wondering if anyone here has had any experience with either welder that could help me choose between them? Is there anything I need to be aware of when welding using these machines that’s different to others or anything of the kind? Are there better alternatives that still fit in my price range and are AC/DC?
Best,
Joe
