I quite fancy a cordless router aka wood trimmer. Found this one to print:

Looks easy enough. Uses however a GS-775M motor. Is that the same as a plain GS-775?

It is a normal motor with an ER11 chuck grubscrewed onto the end of its shaft. What is that going to do for cutter runout?

Consider how far the motor bearing is from the sharp end of any router cutter you put in the chuck. How much leverage will the cutting force put onto the bearing at that distance?

If you want a cheap cordless router, the Katsu is the best of the Fakitas. It is designed properly as a router, with the chuck integral with the motor shaft and bearings sized to suit its purpose.

Thingiverse is full of stuff from people who can drive a 3D modelling program to the ragged edge but who have no practical engineering knowledge at all.

Just look at the umpteen things that are simply photocopied from a metal original with no regard given to the different characteristics of the 3DP material or the 3DP process.

Agreed. A very poor idea. My dewalt router is a couple thousand Watts, not 75.

Cutter runout on them is actually very good on the one I've got, probably less than a tenth of a mm. However they don't (nor are designed for side loading), I've got one in a little mill I use for drilling PCBs. Absolutely fine for drilling the holes but when routing out the boards it's down to 0.25mm depth of cut at 60mm/min to be happy.

Mind you FR4 is horrible stuff.

The intent with this is to use for very shallow cuts for things like hinges in cheap softwood frames & doors. Maybe some freehand "engraving" too.

I agree ref the scrimping. For proper stuff the big DeWalt takes some beating for power and smoothness. Dangerous though as quiet, vibration free and doesn't have an NVR switch.

Pretty much the exact thing a trim router is designed for - I think the Katsu unit is really the minimum viable tool, and they are inexpensive for a cordless router.
