Cheapo sandblast cabinets

I’ve had loads of opportunities over the years to buy a guyson or other industrial cabinets but never had the will power to faff around collecting and making room etc
I’m now at the point of actually needing one and real ones are making more than I’d spend on a vehicle..

Has anyone experience of these machines or there like

What do you need to blast?

Those pickup tube/suction types are not very good - OK if you have a lot of patience and not a lot of blasting to do.
Otherwise something with the footpedal/metering valve setup and BNP style gun will be a lot closer a professional setup. i.e. this style https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204088514012
Or you can buy the basic components and just build your own enclosure which is what I did.

Extraction is key IMO - otherwise you can't see a bloody thing - I'm using an old Clarke 4" dust extractor which works fine but I really need to build a cyclone for it.

just do what i do run the flexihose outside and sweep up when your finished i have the home made guyson copy suction gun in home made cabinet and also use the pressure fed pot in it as well

Are these Guyson guns good @brightspark?
I picked up this cabinet a few weeks ago for £75, I’ve made some modifications to it but haven’t had a chance to use it yet, outside compressor housing is the next project.
It came with a Guyson gun, I‘ve fitted 4 12v led strip lights inside, it’s very bright.

there suction guns and arent bad for cleaning smallish parts if your not in any great hurry .heres the guts of one i made

It needed a new piece of glass, gloves and didn’t come with a power supply, I’ve just run wires to the switch pins and will power the lights from a car battery, but yes bargains are out there, I’d been looking for one second hand for a while, time will tell if the mixer valve works well, according to you tube it makes a noticeable difference.

stick a rubber mat in on the grid inside if it hasnt one and leave a gap all round so the media drops down in to the hopper. otherwise it blows the stuff back up and like a dust storm without

on my small beadblast cab i use 4inch flexible ducting with a fine mesh filter up in the side of the cabinet

yeah on my small benchtop cabinet, I'm using one designed for a vacuum cleaner

Hi @pressbrake1 I've got that exact cabinet you linked to, it's fine for the price. The manufacturers have listened to some feedback because some of the mods listed for other similar cabinets have already been carried out such as pickup pipe mod, no seam sealing necessary etc.

I've done the mod to move pickup to the dump flap at the bottom and I'd highly recommend it, here's the list I used which is way cheaper than they go for on ebay. www.pipworksuppliers.co.uk.

Also added a £20 cyclone filter and a 3d printed adapter for the shop vac.
