check valve

im having real trouble starting my compressor at the moment, turns out it dosnt have a check valve and is trying to fire up from a standing start with about 7 bar already in the line = fuse goes pop

if i can get hold of a check valve for the reciever i can rig up a proper unloader mechanism. only problem is i cant find one anywere! this is the very thing i need - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IN-TANK-CHECK...hash=item250291788938&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177 only thing is its in america and no amount of google searching will bring up one in the uk. does anyone know were i can find one?

Machine Mart do them. I think they call it a non-return valve.

Do you get a continuous stream of air out of the unloader in the pressure switch when the motor stops?

pressure switch dosnt have an unloader, just found the machine mart non return valve! ta
that busy searching for a check valve

was thinking on hooking up a solenoid valve to the outlet pipe to vent the outlet to atmosphere for a few seconds till the motor gets up to speed, the pipe is 1/2" so woud idealy need a 1/2" valve rather than the 1/4" on the little pressure switches. shal investigate once i get hold of a check valve

edit - just noticed MM have a 1/2" pressure unloader? a picture would of been good. maby pop along to st george cross on monday to have a word whith them

If the pipe is copper, T- in a 15mm capilliary fitting and expand it up to 22mm then use a 22mm to 3/4 bsp female thread (common plumbing fitting, try Screwfix) to screw in a washing machine valve.

EDIT - Thinking about it, if your pipe is 1/2 OD that won't work - Imperial central heating pipes are 1/2 in ID, metric 15mm OD

That unloader dumps air from the pump to atmosphere when a set pressure is reached, used with petrol engined compressors where the engine runs continuously.
