I am looking for advice on how to filter benzyl alcohol that has been used to strip powder coating. That's it really, any input or advice is much appreciated.
It depends on what you want to achieve. If the intention is to get the benzyl alcohol back as pure solvent, then distillation would be necessary, but would you want to go there regarding flammability and the need to get rid of the "crud" in the boiler.
To get rid of particles of paint, a filter paper-based filtration apparatus (e.g. a funnel) would go some way towards separating liquid from solid. However, the liquid coming out of the filtration apparatus would still have some of the paint components dissolved in it, so would be less capable of stripping further powder coat.
Thank you for your input. I was looking for a less laborious method of filtration. I see the turnkey benzyl alcohol strip tanks use a filter press and pump but was struggling to get info on them. But after doing some more research on benzyl alcohol I am not sure why it's being touted as a safer alternative to methylene. It's downsides out way any advantages it may offer and in my opinion it's not for small scale use in most situations as it needs a lot of precautions and proper safety measures in place. Still stuck to the endless task of blasting for the time being it would seem.
