Good morning all,
Been a few weeks since I’ve been here since I have been super busy but hopefully have some time to visit more frequently now I’m through the backlog!
Any way, not sure if this tool is relevant for this forum so please move or delete if needed.
Whilst working at a waste facility I found an old looking axe that I thought was interesting as it has a metal shaft albeit no handle to cover it. After a bit of cleaning up I noticed the name stamped on the head ‘Chillington’ and ‘Arpax’ underneath it. Turns out it’s a fireman’s axe from the WW11 era and should in fact have a rubber handle fitted to it.
I am looking to spruce it up a little so I can use it for splitting kindling for my fire, it currently does it very well but I’d like to bring it back to how it should look with a rubber handle or get a hickory handle, split it down the middle and rivet it to the shaft.
Does anyone know of these types of axes and can point me in the direction of rubber handles? Failing that (and I’m no wood worker) I’ll gladly have a go at fitting a Woden handle to it
Thanks
