Choosing a New Compressor

Hi;

I have been running a SH Snapon 2.5HP 50 Litre Compressor and have now built a new (small) workshop which I am going to kit out with new tools where I am able.
I am looking for a new compressor that will fit under my work bench or tucked away under a storage shelf.
Has anyone used SGS Compressors like this one.

It is a good price, 100 Litre 14CFM and 3HP. Worth buying?

I have finished my car restoration and I am not planning another but may do some small spraying jobs and run a few air tools (which my snapon could not) such as Die Grinder

ok for intermittent hobby use. a belt drive is a much better investment

Have you considered FIAC? They’ve got some very nice bits of kit and they’ve just gone on wilkinson stars promo for November. Best time of the year to get them.

Looked the the Wilkinsons Stars website but no prices are shown. Where is the best place to buy them or is that Wilkinsons by telephone?

Wilkinson star won’t sell direct, only through distributors..

i have a wolf 90l compressor, a frw other members have them also, is a joy to use over a direct drive unit

I had spotted the Wolf Compressors previously and asked about it here with mixed opinions ref the quality of Wolf products. I can't really spend more than £300 anyway and the price and capacity of this one is about what I reckon I will need.

that's the seller i got mine from, i started a post about mine before buying, one posted above appears to be the same thing, i questioned this before

After recently making the switch from 2 25l direct drives to a single large 200l belt drive compressor I would definitely not change back. Loads more air & a lot quieter.

Looks remarkably similar to the Machine Mart Hunter. Good price and specs though.



And how has it been? What will it run?

ive been happy with mine, runs the usual, impact guns, tyre inflator etc, also a plasma cutter, cut off saw, die grinder etc

We use a FIAC at work, rotary screw type. Pretty nice bit of kit

I've got a Kaeser Classic 460/50.
A bit heavy, but more then capable enough to handle everything I do with it.(Plasma/painting/impact wrench)
Also it's quite mellow tone wise, so a simple enclosure of some fiber board and eggfoam will leave you able to work right beside it without getting a headache.
They also have a 90 litre tanked version, but for my usage the 50 does just fine, and it is quite a bit smaller.

Only downside is the price, I was lucky to find mine at an auction site for less then a third of the new price.
It's a proper piece of kit though, maybe overkill for what you want.
