Chosing a higher output set up...?

I'm happy with my Wolf Dakota 100ltr, but at 14 CFM it has its limitations.

I'm planning on using it, when the time comes for powering an air fed mask. Which brings about the decision of buying one or possibly two more compressors for HVLP usage. Also I quite fancy the idea of a blast cabinet and possibly other high consumption tools in the future.

Or, just buy two Wolf Dakota s and couple them together. By doing this I'll have a total of 28 CFM, and if I plumb in the compressor I already own a total of 40 CFM will be available.

The Clarke 270 ltr 28 CFM unit is around £1100, two Wolf Dakota will be no more than £600.

That's an area I've yet to research, I couldn't comment as such.

A big compressor works well but sometimes can struggle on power to run them.
Would rather 2 smaller ones or a twin compressor as can use them individually if needed.

Only ask because our compressor at work for the ba cylinders has to be tested monthly for water and oil content of the air... you will most likely be wearing yours a lot more hours than we do

I have heard the quoted CFM of 14 is really a free air delivery of around 9.

I believe a three stage filter is a good idea for an air fed mask, from the limited knowledge I've gathered so far.

It'll be for DIY usage and so infrequently used. Only a few individual panels to be painted.

They can, but I feel that using one as a dedicated air supply is going to be safer as the gun can't take any of its capacity away. 11CFM will run virtually all guns and most air fed masks, so it just makes more sense to me.

Do you mean I might encounter an issue with flow if using two combined, which could result in poor finish in the paint?

Slight derail but at what point in the cfm hunt does a hydrovane start to make sense ? Just curious because I too would like an upgrade in cfm`s but would also like quiet .

According to my local bodyshop it's the answer to everything. He seemed to think 200 CFM was present via his diesel Hydrovane. I think he paid around twelve hundred quid for a second hand unit of the net.

If I had the space I might well consider one.

i have one of those 28 cfm clarke things i'm stuck on singel phase it's a good small workshop shop compressor and plenty fine for most air tools, a bit of spraying ect useless for blasting.

for me on the workshop supply thats the biggest compressor i can have , lights + compressor + welder / plasma and a bit of other clutter is about what the breacker will tolerate if 2 of you are on a mission trying to get something done and compressor cuts in it can be lights out, so went diesel road compressor for extra air whn needed .

if i had 3ph itd be a hard call between a 10 hp piston compressor and a screw unit, a mate runs a brace of screw compressors and a 500 ltr tank. a littel 3 hp screw that runs all day every day, and a pair of 30 kw screws.

general air is done by littel one, if there painting / sanding a lot , goudgeing or blast cab it 1 screw if the blast room is on the go both screws

I was just a bit curious about efficiency/leccy usage. How do the compare with the equivalent piston compressors?

they are more efficent than piston compressors when they are pumping, and most screw units are 100% duity rated. so all the air all the time.

there efficencey downside is they are continuous run, if you have continuous air demand thats fine but chould find your ideing the compressor all day for no real gain

I have 2x 3hp compressors linked with 250ltre combined capacity Have never been short of air with anything I've used, spraying with air fed mask, sand blasting, air tools. You may need more but I never have.
