Christmas Tree Stand

We've had this artificial tree for 17-18years, and for the last 10 it's been an effort to get the tree straight. It's in 4 pieces, about 10' in height, and well worn at this stage, so much so that the tree bolts used to steady it have made three big dents where they meet the 'trunk' of it.... meaning it was now impossible to set it up straight and true

So this year I finally got around to modifying the stand:



....made use of an old brake disk by cutting off the friction surface. Got a piece of 60mm pipe from Moffatt's engineering. Also got my eldest to stick-weld the disk to the stand (I think he was humouring me by showing any interest ), and I used the mig to weld the pipe to the center of the disk

Seems to have worked, that's the most upright it's ever been.....

(Please don't scoff, I tried telling them that for every decoration put up in November an elve kills a baby reindeer, but no.... apparently teenagers aren't that gullible)

Too early. With a room that size, you ought have one upto the ceiling in height. How high's the ceiling?

maybe, but I don't think there are too many 16' artificial trees about

Even real ones are likely not easy to obtain at that height. I picked a 13' tree last year for mine, & I believe that was about the tallest there. A gnats got cut off the top so I could fit the fairy on, but I finally got one to ceiling height.

Great it is indeed. But, it's still mid november (ffs).
Ours goes up one week before Christmas Day.

I've always loved a tall tree. Has to be taller than me (6ft so not that hard) otherwise it just feels wrong.
Where we are now a tree that touches the ceiling is easy as our living room ceiling is about 7ft6. Even MrsG can touch the ceiling.

Same here. Still trying to decide whether to bother with one in the flat or not this year though. It's a lot of work, the tree dressing & undressing.

Have some kids, after about ten or so years they'll do it for you (unfortunately you still end up taking them down after Christmas )
