chuck key help

I'm starting to suffer a bit with my spine & left shoulder now I'm starting to use the four jaw chuck on my Atlas lathe . The problem is I only have a short chuck key so I have to lean forward to use the key when trying to centre things on a mark .


Can anyone with a mill help me by making a new key 10 inches long by 0.3 of an inch square on the square end , the length of the square to be 0. 5 of an inch long ?

The dia of the bar on shaft on the chuck key I have is 0.45 of an inch in dia but half inch would be brilliant .

I can sort out the T bar end and weld it in place so there won't need to be much turning , it's the square end I'm having probs with as I can't file very well any more due to the shoulder & spinal problems .


I can offer beer tokens or a couple of my hand made pens in olive wood , that's why I'm using the four jaw chuck ......to try and get the best growth patterns when turned up out of the blocks olive wood I've been cutting . This is the sort of pen I tend to make , twist & turn ball points in black or blue ink jobbies not clickers .

Just need someone with a square collet block that can mount it on a mill or on a lathe with t-slot cross slide.

If you don't have a key , you saying the square block triggered the old grey matter . I have a QCTP and one of the tool holders is for a 19 mm round boring bar cutter . I also have a 8 inch long x 2x 2 inch precision square block of aluminium ( checked it today)

I think I can accurately bore out a central accurate hole , studlock it in place on a turned up bar then use the bar block and a spirit level to get the accurate faces cut on the lathe using a ground up bit of an old 3/4 HSS redundant cutter as a mini flycutter in the four jaw chuck .
