clarke 140 turbo arc welder into a tig ?

i have a old clarke 140 turbo arc welder.
that i stopped using when i brought a mig welder.

now ive been reading online you can convert an arc welder
into a scratch start tig welder.

but it needs to be DC ?

apart from the cooling fan not working the arc welder did work last time it was used.

it also has easy change + and - on the front..

it would be easy enough to put in a 240v to 12v transformer and a 12v cooling fan in replacment.

any ideas..... cheers.

You can get a 230V fan to replace the one there.

For DC TIG you would need to add a rectifier, capcacitor and protection from spikes. Then a torch with a gas valve, regulator and power adapter for the torch (splits power had gas.)

WOuld probably be much better to get a cheap TIG.

hi thanks for the replys

i was afraid you was going to say that

i was hoping it was a dc output arc welder.

but that isnt the case.

and wouldnt be worth the cost to convert it over to a tig.

as im sure the cost would be not far off what a normal dc tig would be.
