But notice it says it must be run from a minimum of a 30amp supply, anyone have one of these but run from a lesser amp?

Now... let's start that I would not buy it, the too flow output is too low, sooner or later you gonna be quite tired with it. Don't look for anything below 500L of real flow.

As for the motor, 3hp is something like 2.5kw, you will need 3kw single phase power supply to start, so... you need at least 12.5amps fuse to run it.

And if you do need an industrial one, look for a deal on a second-hand, well maintained Quincy. The more than live up to their reputation...

the reason it says 30 amp is the starting load is quite high .motor will be 3hp running about 12 amps but the starting load will be about 55amps for a few seconds

It is a cracking compressor, I have had mine for about 10 years and it has run fine off a 16A commando plug & socket and 30A MCB.

Getting a bigger tank won't give you more flow, it will allow you to take more air intermittently, but then it will take longer to fill up again. It averages out.

Although the nearest plug fuse is 13A, you'll need a bigger fuse to allow for the startup surge, a normal 13A plug & socket isn't really up to it.

I had a sparky into my workshop yesterday to check out the wiring and see what was what, the wiring in my workshop is 40Amp (or rated to 40 amp or something) but he wasn't too keen on the last compressor I wanted which required 40amp to run. he wasn't keen at all kept going on about lights dimming and flickering and stuff (maybe he was just scared he might end up with some work to do) who knows. But since the wiring is 'apparently' good for it will I still need the commando socket and 30A MCB, would I get away with just chucking a decent size fuse into the plug and plugging it in?

it would need to be on a 30 amp mcb anything smaller it it would just keep blowing or tripping

that depends on the db that your taking it off .that breaker is just a plug in replacement for an old rewirable fuse wylex unit if thats what u have fitted in house

it realy needs running back to the fuse board in min 4.0mm cable and the 30 amp fuse or breaker and as said in other posts use a comando plug and socket . then that is your isolation for it

I've heard good reviews about this compressor and its probably the one I'm going to go for when a VAT free day comes a long at machine mart.

Let us know what you do with the wiring and what the compressor is like.

I have one of these, and it's running just fine on a 16A Ceeform (Commando is the MK Brand name) on a C16 breaker.

I use the 100 litre version of this compressor and so far it's been superb, I have mine on its own 32amp breaker and an isolator switch on the wall as it's wired direct. Not had any issues with power supply.

What do you use the 100 litre one for, do you blast or spray with it?

I use air tools and spray with a devilbiss sri and airfed mask, it keeps up ok but does work hard with the mask. I also use a da sander with it, I have tried blasting but only a spot blaster but the motor and pump is same on 100 litre and 150 litre compressor so other than running time should be the same, we also have the same model in 200 litre at work and that is fine on our plasma cutter.
