Hello all, my clarke SE16C100 has started to overheat' the cylinder head gets too hot to touch, any ideas what is causing the overheating, also there is a bung between the engine crancase/block & the cage round the flywheel which has oil stamped on it but there is also a black plastic screw in tube at the side of the engine. Which one does the oil go in?? regards DW

Overheating can be caused by low oil level, restricted ventilation or running for too long between stops.
The oil goes in the plastic tube, it doubles up as a breather so be careful not to lose the foam insert.
On the opposite side to the flywheel there is an oil drain at the bottom of the crankcase and a sightglass just above it. The minimum oil level is just above the red dot in the centre of the sightglass, maximum at the top of the sightglass. Use SAE 30 compressor oil.

Cylinder heads do get too hot to touch, is it showing any other symptoms?
Thanks for the prompt reply. Ventilation hasnt changed as I havent moved the comp'. It is never on for too long. The oil level is Ok, I couldnt work out if the sight glass was full or empty so I undid the drain plug beneath the sight glass & drained the oil. On this model as well as the plastic tube on the side there is a bung marked oil but its in a daft place between the cage protecting the flywheel & the engine block, after a good deal of effort I managed to undo this bung & refill oil from there. I did unscrew the plastic tube noticed a hole in it blew in it & air came out of hole so assumed it was a crankcase breather not a filler! So now its had an oil change. But still overheats. In answer to Pedrobedro no, there are no other symptoms it still holds pressure but dont want to carry on using it untill overheating prob' is cured. Did try to download a manual from clarke website but get pdf file error messages each time.
As I say its very diff' to get at, taking off the flywheel cage makes it easier, so only assume manufacturer thought put in a new oil filler & combine it with a breather...see the att pic for the bung position.
see att' pic took air filter off not a trace of dirt on it. Could it be blocked non return valve????????

That valve stays open until the pressure reaches about 20 psi on mine. It's purpose is to allow the pump to get up to speed before putting a load on it. Normally this function is performed by the unloading valve in the pressure switch.
I was a bit flummoxed by mine at first, asked Machine Mart about it they sent me a new valve, only they sent the wrong type of valve!
How did you get the pulley guard off?
.......real bit of engineering that take water pump pliers or similar & twist the plastic lugs holding it together 90 deg then it comes apart, having said that I havent taken my guard off. See pic
