I have been looking for a welder for a while now and all the ones that cought my eye 2nd hand either fell through or went for silly money. So, after having spoken with a few lads (1 of whome is a welder on boats) I have decided to go for a Clarke 151TE which they had all used (some still use it almost daily) and they all said it was a good beginners welder.
I have recently received a VAT free voucher for all Clarke products from Machine Mart, so was planning on going to buy it this weekend. However I was originally looking at a SIF helmet, but both the Clarke & cheaper SIF ones look identical and cost around the same. Is there an difference between them? At this end of the price range (around £50) is it one of those things that is made in the same factory, just rebranded or will the SIF one be vastly superiour?
Just thinking if I'm there and it's VAT free I may as well buy it if its more or less the same quality as a cheap SIF one. Any ideas, suggestions, etc?
Cheers!
