Got some white residue from an old overflow pipe down the brickwork on the house. Can anyone recommend a good product to clean it off? I've tried pressure washing but no joy.
Brick acid (muriatic acid / Hydrochloric Acid) should shift it as it will be calcium based. should be able to get it at most builders merchants - not sure if DIY type places would stock it.
As has been said, brick acid is the norm but i have found it not good for the white slabs outside the front.
I thoroughly wetted the slabs first and brushed it in undiluted and left it for 15,then pressure washed it but it didn't come up really clean, slightly better but there was a shade dark in them dunno if it was the slabs and the way they where fired or what?
If it's just calcium based efflourescence, than any mild acid will dissolve it. I prefer citric for this kind of job as it's clear and readily available from home brew shops. Small amounts can even be found in Wilko stores.
It's perfect for descaling kettles, coffee machines and even toilet bowls. It works much faster when hot.
