I’ve made a copper covered dining table which I’m quite pleased with, however I can’t decide how (or indeed whether!) to protect it. Does anybody have any experience of the clear coatings you can get for copper, brass etc.? What I don’t want to do is apply lacquer or similar only for it to peel off. I don’t fancy polishing the thing every weekend either though…. I had thought about applying a wax or similar but I’m not sure how well that would work. Or, should I just leave it to patina naturally?

Years ago, perhaps 10 or more, I striped the lumpy old paint off and polished the cold water copper pipe to shower in bathroom, to make them look better. Brush painted with 1k clear coat from halfords. Still looks quite good and none has peeled/corroded.

I've been thinking about trying everbrite protectaclear (or normal everbrite) on a bare steel countertop for long term protection but unfortunately they haven't yet responded to my emails.
Might be worth a look?

Renaissance wax if inside, make sure it's totally dry though before applying or you can get green coming through.
I regularly dive on a 17th century shipwreck thats all but vanished now apart from the odd big timber and the huge brass pins holding them together ,, however the copper from the hull covering is still like new , as it comes out of the silt , a rub with a stone and it gleams like gold.

This is weird but it happened to me once. I was drinking in a pub with copper covered tables and was leaning on it all night with bare arms, I started noticing a very strong metallic taste in my mouth at the end of the night and that stayed with me for days afterwards!

My dad had one of those bracelets. Swore it helped his arthritis in his wrists.
Got smashed up bad on a bike many years ago and had not a full range of movement. He said it helped. I may try it.
During Rona some people were buying copper door furniture. Dunno if that was snake oil but…..
As for OP. I have two experiences -
1, bought a lacquered ex pub table as it was a good piece of hammered copper. That took an age to get off. I think it must have been an epoxy type.
2, made Mrs79 a copper rose and a few others to sell. Just hit them with clear coat and they stayed as intended for a good time.
Not sure about hot drink mugs etc
