Coating for inside of tubes ?

I'm considering Ikea Udden freestanding units for my kitchen -

You have a metal frame that cupboard, racking, shelves etc attach.
If comes flat packed and you build up the metal frame with captive nuts / allen bolts the same as all the other Ikea furniture.
Whilst in new and dismantled state I'd like to coat the internal tubes so what do people recommend ?
Holes would be taped up and coating poured in then tipped out and left to drain. I don't want to use anything like Waxoyl, oil and such.
Obviously there is paint but what type / reasonable price / easilly available ?
What about Linseed oil ?

heated waxoil would become pourable but im a tad mystified why you need to coat the tubes. I await with baited breath as will many others im sure.

If you really must then an aerosol of waxoyl will do it, personally I think its a waste of time, I regularly modify and repair mild steel table frames use in commercial kitchens and food factories that are 30 or 40 years old and are still as clean on the inside as the day they were made.

The reason I thought of coating the inside is because Ikea will have them made in China which isn't noted as being the land of best quality steel.
If people reckon it'll be OK then I accept their opinion.

I think what Compo was trying to stop is where the coating peels at the bottom where the foot pushes into.

If so then I don't think it would make much difference as Paul says. I would say the rust starts where the tube was cut, or drilled.

keeping it free from drips/moisture would be a far easier/cleaner option

more chance of the metal going rusty from the bottom outside if the missus cleans the floor regular with a mop with disinfectants
