Need some advice if anyone can oblige.
Situation is I have painted a panel and then carefully colour sanded with 1500 grit to get a nice smooth finish. I then run the DA over the panel with a cutting compound and then follow that up with a finishing polish.
From a distance the panels looks nice and shiny but when I look along the panel I can see a super fine texture to the paint which means the panel doesn’t looks as shiny as I would have liked it too. It’s not the orange peel effect you usually get with most car paint jobs, it’s like some super fine texture to the paint. With this effect any reflections in the paint have a blurred appearance.
What confuses me is I haven’t done anything differently to what I have done on other panels and they have come up very nicely. The only change being the colour.
Are darker colours harder to colour sand / finish as this one is taking eternity?
I also don’t feel the 1500 is making any real impact can I colour sand with 800 grit to see if I can remove this annoying texture will this effect the final finish?
I am also compounding with a 3m compounding / finishing paste and was wondering if its possibly not abrasive enough to remove this texture. Exactly how long should I attempt to compound the panel, I spent around 5 / 10 mins with the cutting compound on a DA working my way around this panel but it doesn’t seem to have done much to remove this texture.
Any help is appreciated!
