my local welding shop recently gave me some comet j 50 n electrodes to try, i went in for some filarc 56s for root work but was suggested to try these. they are a 7016 rod and been out to try a few today.
i have 3.2mm rods and laid fillets on a t down hand and vert up, dc electrode neg for both and must say they i am very impressed. hor fillet 110amps, vert up 100amps-not sure of rec amps as they didn't come in the box-does this seem about correct?
flux was very glassy but detached easily compared to bohler ev50's and beads were lovely and smooth. the rods have alot of coating on them and not really convinced that will make for a good rooting rod (didn't get to set any pieces up for this) like the filarc's are which have a nice thin coating.
need to get some 2.5 for rooting really-would everyone else use 2.5 for rooting or can a 3.2 rod be used ok?
these come with a graphite tip which make for lovely starting.
thought i would post my experience of these and would like to hear other peoples thoughts/suggestions
cheers
