Compact Bolt Cutters - any good?

My TR7 rear bumper is held on by 6 14mm nuts on (I would say) 10mm studs. To be more precise, the bumper is currently held by one nut, which is being a bit illegitimate. The stud seems to be spinning in the bumper because the nut is rusted to the stud. It's a confined space, and I've tried all sorts of ways to either get the nut off or cut the stud behind the nut - grinder, nut cutters, close quarter hacksaws, even a hacksaw blade wrapped in insulting tape.

I've seen the compact 8" bolt cutters on eBay. Will these be any good?

'Small' and 'Bolt cutter' doesn't sound good together...

Could you get a dremel or air (or leccy) sabre saw up there?

I've found small bolt cutters fairly useless other than for thick wire. The levers behind the jaws which give mechanical advantage on large sets doesnt seem to work as well on small sets. Record ones arnt bad, but doubt they would work. With the cheap ones, i have managed to get the handles to touch each other without doing anything more than nicking the bar the jaws were around - very bendy!

Mark - Still having problems with your nuts? Get a splitter from screwfix or MM.

Ive split a few nuts in my time Its a very handy tool to have,i think mine are sykes pickavant but any decent tool place should have them.....even Halfords sometimes have them in stock.

I've got some nut splitters somewhere. The problem is that the nut's frozen half way along stud, so it's loose. If not, I'll try my dremel clone when family issues are sorted. Thanks for letting me know about the bolt cutters. Saves a bit of cash I don't really have at the moment...

Often if you can get the nut to crack (doesnt even have to split) it will often loosen

i presume you have soaked in wd etc etc
