Compatible Check/non return valve for Clarke Ranger Compressor

Anyone know of a cheap compatible check valve for a Clarke 24L RANGER 6/240 compressor ?

A genuine replacement part from Clarke is about £30 but as I’ve had the compressor for so long and it was second hand when I got it; I prefer to pay less or just buy a new compressor

thought on the cheaper end of the market they were mostly interchangable......
unless it's very very old it will be chinese......the old ones were mostly Italien...

I’ve own the compressor for about 8 years and when bought it looked old and decrepit but once wiped clean, it look relatively new, so I assume maybe it’s 10 -12 years old and probably Chinese made.

I’ve seen Checks Valves on eBay for £7-10, which I’d pay but I don’t know thread sizes of my current check valve, hence why I asked on here; in the hope, that a forum has encountered a situation and managed to buy a compatible check valve that fits.

What part has failed? I once had an old 2 cylinder compressor that leaked back, so I pulled the check valve apart and found a simple O ring had broken up with age and heat. Replaced it with one of out my bag of spares, and all was well again.

If it’s just the rubber disc that has failed inside the valve, you can make one from a blank bath washer.local plumbing shop could help.

I have an old lorry buffer that I cut bits from when my non return valves fail.

mine was passing the disk. had an indent in it so sanded it flat and put it back in its been fine for 4 years now

A lot of the check valves on the cheaper compressors are indeed pretty much interchangeable. A lot have a shallow 24mm hex to undo the brass end cover (depressurize FULLY before trying this) and these tend to get graunched up if you try to use a socket or spanner with a chamfer. I have a 24mm socket that I ground flat for just this purpose.

Once you have the end off, there's a spring and a pastel underneath. Ninety-odd percent of the time, the pastel just needs replacing. They can go hard and brittle, leading to cracking, they can simply wear out where they meet the seat, or they can take a set and just not seal through old age. It's usually a case of measuring up and ordering online, because there are different sizes.

Sorry for slow response and thanks for all the replies.

Yeah, when it first dropped all its air a few weeks ago, first thing I did was take the Check Valve apart but I couldn’t see any obvious signs of wear or damage.

All back together and the compressor had been operating just fine, then it dropped all its air again and I could feel the air escaping from under the regulation switch assembly.
So, I’m confident it’s a check valve issue, although not obvious to the naked eye.

However, when I took apart the check valve today’s, the spring was laying on its side, within the large brass hex top.
So maybe the spring has lost its springiness.

I’ve stretched the spring and put it all back together but I’ve been unable to test it.

It can be a nightmare trying to get the correct NRV for those compressors unless you buy genuine parts. Most of the aftermarket sellers have no idea how to give you the sizes of the threads on the 3 connections.

The tank end is usually 1/2" or 3/4" bsp, the large pipe is bsp too with a male cone fitting, the small pipe can vary - commonly 1/8" bsp. Yours looks to have a nylon pipe with a crushed brass olive on a taper seat, held in with a nut, probably 1/8" bsp but can be a metric fine thread too.

Yeah, that's exactly my thinking, that's why I asked on the forum; on the off chance a forum member has the skill and relevant knowledge to measure the threads/pitch etc and has already sourced a compatible NRV for their own Clarke Ranger Compressor, who can recommend where to buy from or what thread sizes to look for.

For the sake of £30 for a new genuine NRV direct from Clarke, it's not worth the hassle to attempt to source a compatible NRV myself when I don't know the thread sizes.

Just hope my stretching of the NRV spring prolongs its use long enough; until I'm forced to buy a new NRV or a new, probably 2nd hand, silent compressor.

Update..... Used my compressor today and it maintained its air pressure thoughout, turned on/off as it should to recharge and it never dropped its air once

It appears my stretching of the spring has done the trick..
