Compressed air filtration

Hi

I will soon be respraying my engine bay in cellulose and want to get my compressor and lines setup, before the cool and wet autumn moves in.

I already have the compressor and the guns on order (devilbiss flg-g5-14) but am still researching the filters needed to get a good finish. This site has been informative as ever and has helped select the below filters(links below)

Ive found the SMC range on tom parker and rsonline and they look a good option? I plan to have the below filter regulator followed by a mist separator to get the remaining oil out, they both have the necessary flow rating and will filter firstly to 0.5 microns then 0.3 microns. There was a mist separator down to 0.1 but it wouldn't flow enough without getting really expensive.

Will this be suitable?

Ive gone for the 3/8th bore to keep the cost down and it also matches my existing airline.This is new and visibly clean but will it be okay for spraying as it has been used with an un-filter compressor and with airtool lubricated at the tool end?

I would go with 1/2" filters to be sure as little pressure drop and flow restriction as possible. I only bought a cheap 5 micron filter off eBay and set this up at the end of a hard line from my compressor with a couple of drop legs to make sure as much water out as possible. Never had any moisture get past the filter even when working it hard with a da sander.

I have a foot of 3/8 hose off the compressor to isolate vibration then one of those keeping my lines clean. I run about 3 metres of 3/8 hose then into a SIP filter regulator, cost about 30 quid. Then a couple of metres of 3/8 hose to the gun via a 60cm whip hose. I temporarily fit a pressure gauge before the whip hose to set the gun up. Pull the trigger then dial in the correct pressure on the regulator.

I do get a tiny bit of water in the first filter, but have never seen anything in the filter regulator.

I spray with this setup and get very good results.

cheers guys - sounds as though my plans are a bit overkill then !!!

my main concern is my compressor its big and has a twin belt drive which is good but its pretty rough inside, i have cleaned it out and drained it but i know the insides have some rust and definetly oil and moisture

you recommend the hard lines which i would like to install but i don't have anywhere to mount them

From what your saying i think ill forget the mist filter and just go

Compressor - inline filter - regulator\filter - then another inline at the gun

edit- yeah i had seen the devilbiss filter they might even screw on the base of the gun which would be handy
