Compressor Advice

Hi, I currently own a Clarke hunter 55 which is a 50 litre 2.5hp direct drive air compressor which has a 8.7cfm displacement.

I am wanting to upgrade and I have found this Wolf compressor, it is belt driven, 90 litre tank and is 3hp with an air displacement of 14cfm.

I will be using this at home to power air tools including a belt sander, die grinder, drill, cut off tool and some automotive painting.

Will this be good enough to run these I have had a look at some belt sanders and they are around 7-8cfm so I am assuming this should easily run them?

you want more power really for the tools you want to run, you have to take into consideration the duty cycle of the pump.
trouble is your limited with your power, this is why I went petrol.

I think you'll probably be OK, but it depends on the tools: e.g. my die-grinder claims 4cfm, no way... double that easy. I use a mini belt sander, can't comment on anything bigger. Never found any use for cut-off tools vs a mains grinder, but mine ran off my 2.5hp I used to have. You might have to wait about with a 90 litre tank, with some hungry tools.

Usual factors: tools requirements vs the compressor, cheaper tools more likely to be "optimistic" in their specs. HVLP spray gun can need a lot of air.
It's a bit of a game, actual tool reqs vs actual comp output.

I'm fairly sure others on here have got that comp, hopefully they'll chime in - but your link is dead, item gone.

Indeed. The big con out there is simple: Compressor output is normally quoted as 'free air displacement' ie output without the compressor doing any compressing. Air tools quote air usage at rated pressure (generally 90psi) so the two figures are obviously miles apart.....

The 3hp will do the job nicely, if you're concerned then rig up your system to pool the output of both compressors.
