Compressor air cooling

I'm going to open with I think this may be a little mad...

Currently I have my compressors outside each unit inside an enclosure. I want to cool and dry the air.
I was going to go with the traditional loops of copper pipe work on the back outside wall of the unit with the typical drain off points. However when I was mulling around the back of the unit I realised I have 4 house hold radiators.

So I know they are OK up to 8 Bar working as I have the data sheets for them, I would intend to put the air line in at the bottom and on the opposite take out at the top with a long drop drain at the bottom of the opposite side.

Am I mad to think this?

I'd be very wary of using radiators, especially if they're old & corroded inside. Also any moisture condensed out will corrode them.

they will probably be full of rust and sludge too and you may end up with that in your filters

didn't think of them rusting. they are new and was from when i purchased too many. i think i will stick with the normal copper pipe system

I wouldn't put anything in line that may be rated less than the set pressure of the pressure safety valve on your compressor.
I like the radiator idea actually - but I'd use one rated at 10 bar or above - the Screwfix ones are.

just use a secondary air tank. a central heating radiator isn't much different

It does have a better area to volume ratio though.

for air cooling / drying you probaly want
a proper refigerated air dryer they are often cheeper i gave £150 for mine

or been cheep, hydralic oil cooler radiator or oil cooler radiator off an old oil cooled screw compressor. they are desinged to take the pressure and have bigger area

to note that system would not take the bar pressure that your intending

8 bar is for cast iron radiators 3 bar can be used but only filled up slowly

if i was gonna use those radiators it would be on a hot water wood boiler system
