Compressor conversion ?

I have just aquired a Clarke SP15GB110 that is powered by a 5hp Briggs and Stratton engine. I would like to convert this to a single phase electric motor instead. Has anyone done this or similar that can offer advise on where to source a suitable motor and how to fit it etc

5hp is 3.7 kW, 16A on a 230V supply.

3kW single phase motors are available here for example. I haven't found any 3.7kW 1ph motors, after a quick google.

How about fitting two 3hp single phase motors? You could run them off seperate sockets and just have them switched simultaneously from the pressure sensor on the compressor.

How about selling the engine driven compressor and buying a lectric one as the petrol one will be worth more so you should get a better lectric compressor

Does seem like the sensible option.

A 3HP should run the compressor. Most gas engines are overrated.

Use a 3HP motor and it should work. If not swap for a bit smaller pulley.

You will also need to add a pressure switch and remove the pressure releif.

the engine is probably bigger then needed so it can run the compressor at a slower speed and still have enough power.
i.e. it may produce 5hp at 3000rpm which may be too fast for the pump.

As already said you need a 3hp electric motor, and either let it keep running with the genie valve unloading like on a petrol one or you would need to get yourself a pressure switch, for switching off and on,might be better to have a non return on the receiver, and remove the genie. you need a higher powered engine to run a compressor as opposed to electric motor.

Thanks for all the replies. Can you all help with the pressure switch locating/ where to buy/ how to fit and where ? I think I can find a motor....
