compressor fault

good morning people

ive been working in the shed today and having trouble with my 200ltr clarke compressor

basically when i switched it on the motor only spins like half speed for about 5 seconds then trips out the motor press the reset button and same again any ideas

i was thinking piston sticking putting stain on the motor causing it to overload

Stuck NRVor choaked air filter ? Sounds like the machine is labouring then tripping on high current?

Did that happen from a cold start with an empty tank? Or on a re-start after the tank had been filled?

Have you tried running the motor with the belt off?

Mine did just the same thing.
There is a small valve on top of the piston that releases pressure when the motor stops and allows it to spin up again.
See if you can find this, a drop of 3in1 and rapid cycing of the valve sorted mine out.

Could be weak starter capacitor.

You are switching it on/off via the lever on the pressure switch?

ive took the air filter off still the same

it was on a restart but also the compressor was cold

So there was pressure in the tank?

If so, will draining the tank allow it start OK?

If so, do you get a brief distinctive hiss when the motor cuts out?

If you get a continuous hiss when the motor stops it will be the non-return valve as Jim suggested.
