compressor fault

my friend has a fault with his compressor a sip jobbie the right inlet isn't sucking air in any ideas is it a simple fix?

Work out what the motor's worth to you and offer him that, at worst a new pump will be pretty much as expensive as a new compressor.

I have no idea what the motor would be worth he is looking for £100 but he may take less. at worse I could use the tank as a receiver I guess for my current compressor

Anything's only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, so tell him to put it on Ebay and bid for it yourself up to what you think it's worth to you.

it is a 100l tank and a 3hp at 14cfm £20 I think he wont be happy it cost him nearer £400 I think new

£20 or £30 is about right. I'd not pay any more than that.

The other option is to take it to bits and see what's wrong, price up the parts, put a bit in for labour and see what it looks like then.

Does the right hand input appear to be sucking and blowing - that would indicate a valve broken or stuck open, or is it just dead?

I have not seen it he said the right inlet is just not sucking in any air
he isn't technical if it don't work he is the type who will buy a new one

I rebuilt a 100l V twin SIP job a year or two back. Very simple construction, and the parts guy at SIP was very helpful.

If you get the chance to strip it before you make an offer you might be on to a good deal, as parts are easily available. Be aware that if it's a 'major' part that's gone wrong it'll probably not be worth it. Hence the £20/30 offer.

price a new pump from machine mart and u could possibly have a nice set up for not a lot of money err just looked 180 quid for a new pump. don't bother

can't go wrong at 40, strip it and see what's wrong, if it's a cheap repair you're quid's in, worst comes to worst the pump is scrap, you connect up the tank to your existing system, and stick the motor on ebay, you might even break even cash wise... or keep the motor for something else.

£40 sounds a fair price. For that you get a 3HP motor, a 100L receiver and a pressure switch.

for 40 quid its worth a punt at that, a handy tank, motor and pressure switch worst case scenario.
