Compressor gaskets

Tight as I am, I'm rejuvenating an old (probably 60s/70s) Ingersoll Rand v-twin compressor for home use.

I'd like to take off the two heads from the pump to check the bores of the cylinders, but I'm a bit concerned that I won't be able to get replacement gaskets.
Are the head gaskets anything special on compressors? Any good places for spares?

When i rebuilt my 1968 T30 Ingersol Rand i used klingerite gasket material that i got through Chronos.
I think i used the middle thickness that they had.
It wasn't too bad to cut the shapes for the new ones....head and base gaskets.

The compressor seems to run fine with these homemade gaskets.

The head gasket went on an old moped I used to ride and I made a new one from a foil carton from the chippy It lasted 2 more years and probably longer as I sold it as a runner. The gasket that came off was a thin aluminium one. It would probably work for a compressor.

Many thanks Chaps - I looked at the Klingerite stuff and that looks like it would be reliable. I didn't really want to resort to Hermetite type stuff, so that looks the best option so far.

See if you have a local gasket makers. I have several near me. They throw away loads of gasket material. my type 30 has head gaskets made from something like klinger C4400. You will see bits of it on ebay.

The T30 has been going since about 1928 - 30 if I recall, without much difference in parts and design, it shouldn't be hard to get a direct replacement for your model, I made a kilnkerite gasket for a Clarke Ive got and after 5 yrs no probs of late

I have a 1968 mid size,15cfm, one and a 1938 24 cfm one..
A mate worked for a garage services company and drove round servicing them. The old pump is sitting in my shed, I almost put it in the scrap, I keep meaning to get a pto box for my land rover and stick the compressor on the landy.
