Compressor help

Hi my compressor been playing up lately and was told it was the capacitors ,
Ok I thought so I'm trying to get one but my one says 50pf on it and I can only find 50 uf ,
So my question is what's the difference
This is what's on my one
Sintex
45s.f1. F1 as.50
50pf +5%
Ac400v b 25 / 85 / 21
Ac450 c 25/85/21
50/60 hz
En60252-1

Any advice would be appreciated

Hi, That's not a 'p' it's reversed 'u' with a long leg. It means microfarad.

second that, 50pf is a valid capacitance value but isn't at all likely but 50uf is (uf = microfarad)

what is the original problem as a failed capacitor usually results in a motor that sits and hums rather than running

Ok it won't start it trys but then the switch stops it,
Some times it will start but then it will turn a couple of turns then stops

Which switch? Could be the cold weather. Is it belt driven? If so see if the motor starts with the belt removed.

Hi it's the circunit breaker micro switch, yes it's belt drive, and yes it's outside in a cabinet I will try it with the belt of tomorrow

you should be able to check contiuity through the micro switch easily. whilst a big NO NO, it can be bypassed just for a quick try.
whip the belts off as suggested first- give it a try.

It's the circuit breaker micro switch on the side so when it over loads it switches of ,

unless its knackered it is doing its job and cutting out when overloaded, if its not nackered whats overloading it. It too can be bypassed, but it is an important safety feature of the compressor electrics.

Ok - it's not a microswitch, it's a cut-out.

It's quite common in cold weather for the motor to trip the cut-out because the startup current is too high due to the higher viscosity of the oil. It's also know for them to fail and become too sensitive.

Is it a SIP compressor by any chance?

I changed the circuit breaker micro switch and the capacitor and it works a treat,
