Compressor Hours

A Quickie, looking at buying a big 3ph compressor head, it has nearly 4000 hrs on it and is ten years old, it says change the oil every 2000 hours and its practically ready for its second oil change. Is 4000 hrs alot? its 7.5hp single cylinder and came from our works, so i've had it working, they want 200 odd euros for it. Seems reasonable to me. And finally what oil do you stick in compressors, thanks in advance.

4000 hours equivalent to 8 hours per day 5 days per week 100 weeks.
if it states change the oil every 2000 they must expect it to last alot longer if it runs well and as it should i wouldnt be put off

4000 hours is nothing. What is the make and type ? Screw , piston , vane ?

Thanks folks for the replies, it is a big industrial jobbee, definitely piston, from a well known albeit (not that that's bad) french company. I'll check at work tommorrow as I can't remember.

What kind of size comp' does one need to sand blast would be my next question?

And what kind of oil? special oil? olive oil? (joke).

as big as possible but bare minimum would be 14 cfm pump with 3hp motor depending what u are blasting

Single piston compressor by 'Luchard' and the whole ensemble built by CompAir, here it is: Just missing the air tank, which was scrapped as it did not comply with something or other.
